Where Recently Deleted lives

Open the Photos app on your iPhone.
Tap Albums.
Scroll to Utilities (or the bottom of Albums) and open Recently Deleted.
You will see items you deleted from your library that still sit in this holding album.

The 30-day window (and why space is not free yet)

When you delete a photo from your library, iPhone usually moves it to Recently Deleted for about 30 days. During that time you can recover it. The file still uses device storage until it leaves this album.

After about 30 days, iPhone removes items automatically. You can also delete them sooner if you are sure you do not need them and you want the space back now.

How to empty Recently Deleted and free storage

Open Photos → Albums → Recently Deleted.
Tap Select.
Choose the items you want gone for good—or use Select All if the whole album should go.
Tap Delete, then confirm. On some iOS versions you may see Delete All when nothing is selected yet—read the prompt before you confirm.
Check Settings → General → iPhone Storage after a moment. Space frees after the permanent delete finishes.

Recover keepers before you empty

Emptying is permanent for those items. If anything important might be in the album, recover it first.

In Recently Deleted, tap Select, choose the keepers, then tap Recover. They return to your library. Then empty only what you still want gone.

iCloud Photos: what emptying does after sync

If iCloud Photos is on, items you permanently remove from Recently Deleted leave iCloud Photos after your devices sync—when you have a network and sync completes.

If iCloud Photos is off, emptying Recently Deleted frees local device storage. It does not shrink iCloud Photos usage by itself.

Check Settings → [your name] → iCloud → Manage Account Storage to see Photos usage after sync. Pikondo does not manage iCloud settings or force sync.
